VIEW: Art talk, opening reception set Sept. 12

An opening reception will be held at VIEW on Friday, September 12 for two distinct artists who will be exhibiting their work throughout the fall: nature photographer Mario Davalos and multimedia printer Eileen Feeney Bushnell.

Each artist will hold a brief discussion of their work at 4 p.m. in the 210 classroom at the art center. The reception will follow in the Eco Gallery until 7 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, with beverages and light fare being served.

Through his work, Davalos examines humanity’s role as a species in relationship to other creatures.

His exhibit, Irruption, follows a trek he made last winter from New York City to Lake Placid to study snowy owls.

Through this body of work, Davalos not only makes reference to the snowy owls that invaded the east coast in the winter of 2013 to 14, but also to our senseless habit as humans to burst into nature and overpower the delicate balance around us, while ignoring creatures, patterns, and natural events that define the place we live in.

Davalos’ work will be on display in the Eco Gallery from September 13 through January 4, 2015.

The work of Eileen Feeney Bushnell, a professor of art at Rochester Institute of Technology places emphasis on the figure as a dominant point of reference to create a personal mythology that arises from a contemporary critique of domesticity and suburban life.

The works, printed on both paper and glass, utilize multiple printing techniques to bring seemingly disparate imagery together into a newly formed narrative.

The exhibition, Interlude, will be displayed in the Gould Hall Gallery and the Balcony Gallery from September 6 through January 4, 2015.

Each artist  will hold a brief discussion of their work at 4pm,  in the 210 classroom at View, followed by a reception in the Eco Gallery. The event is free and open to the public, with beverages and light fare being served.
