Donald E. Norton, 48, passes away

Donald E. Norton, 48, of Bear Creek Road, Woodgate passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014. Donald E. Norton

He was born in Utica, on January 2, 1966, a son of John B. “Buz” and Gloria F. Wenham Norton.

He grew up in Otter Lake; during that time he was an active parishioner at St. Mary of the Snows Church, Otter Lake.

Don received his education at Town of Webb School of Old Forge, where he graduated with the Class of 1984.

While in high school he was a member of the Basketball Team and the Track Team, where he established the school record for the Long Jump, which stood until the 2012-2013 season.

After that he attended SUNY Morrisville.

For the past 20 years he was owner and an auto mechanic at Thendara Automotive Garage on State Rt. 28, Thendara.

Donald married Vanessa M. Levensailor on July 24, 2010, at the Boonville United Methodist Church.

Don greatly loved his children and cherished the many times that he took them camping on the St. Lawrence River at Clayton, a location that they visited often during every season of the year.

When he visited the St. Lawrence River he greatly enjoyed boating for long distances on the river. He was also an avid snowmobiler.

Don was a special person who will be fondly remembered for the kind ways in which he loved and served his neighbor; he found much joy in assisting tourists and locals alike with repairing automobiles and often he did this at his own expense.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, John M. Gaither, age 14, Paiton Gloria Marie Norton, age 5, and identical twin daughters, Addyson Grace Norton, and Avarie Caroline Norton, age 2, and by his two brothers and three sisters.

He was predeceased by his father, John B. Norton, on April 25, 1998, and by his mother, Gloria F. Norton, on February 16, 2014.

In keeping with Donald’s wishes there will be no visitation or services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Otter Lake Fire Department, 13853 State Rt. 28, Otter Lake, NY 13338. His arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville.
