Matt’s Hot Screamers softball team finished off the 2014 season with a bang. They came out of the gate on fire in the championship game against The Inn On Gore, putting up 10 runs in the top of the first.
Every batter hit the ball hard, and the inning was only ended because of the 10-run rule.
Kyle Hauser and DeDe St. Marie both singled and then scored when Beth Williamson crushed a three-run homer.
Heather Levi drew a walk, Meg Kraeger singled, Ashley Fowler smacked a double followed by three straight hits by Crystal LaPorte, Katlyn Payne, and Britney Jackson. Hauser, St. Marie and Williamson also hit again before the inning was stopped.
Inn On Gore fought back and scored three times in the first to close the gap. In the third inning LaPorte hit a double, then scored on Payne’s hit.
Lindsay Paluck kept it going with a big hit, only to be followed by Jackson and St. Marie knocking in a couple more runs.
Gore fought back again in the bottom of the fourth with three more runs, but the Screamers still had a comfy lead of 14 to 6.
The Screamers put together four more runs over the next three innings to close out the game with a victory and final score of 18 to 6.
Williamson led the team with six RBI. St. Marie and LaPorte each had four hits. Hauser, Emily Wilton, Fowler, and Payne each had three hits.
Lauren Dykeman pitched another fine game and the team played well behind her, as they did all season.
This was the first undefeated season for the Screamers. These girls played awesome. It was a great season.
