VIEW: Wood Carving Exhibit opening on Friday, August 15

Freshly Hewn, a wood carving and pyrography exhibition by artist Michael Trivieri will open with a reception at VIEW on Friday, August 15th.

Trivieri, of  Tupper Lake, is known throughout the Adirondack community for his commissioned work at private homes.

He began his career in wood as a logger and forester. Through his work, he grew to appreciate the beauty of the curves, indentations, and reticulating growth patterns of wood and how they fashioned art that he felt could be further exemplified.

Examples of his exhibited work will be bowls he carved from wood burls. Additionally he developed carving skills using only hand tools to produce large-scale nature relief scenes based on his observations in the Adirondacks.

He further expanded these pieces dimensionally using pyrography—the art of decorating wood with marks from a handheld solid point burner.

The opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

View is a multi-arts center located at 3273 State Route 28 in Old Forge. Visit  ViewArts.org for more information about all exhibits and performances.
