Town of Webb contracts with consulting firm on police dept. evaluation

Town of Webb Police Chief John Russell was suspended with pay on Tuesday, July 29 pending an internal investigation and assessment of the police department.

An outside police consultant group has been hired to conduct this review.

The investigation is currently underway with a timeframe that is yet undetermined.

Police Commissioner Theodore Riehle, who was appointed to the position at the Town of Webb organizational meeting in January, has assumed oversight responsibilities of the Police Department until the completion of the evaluation.

The results of the evaulation will be forwarded to Commis-sioner Riehle.

Riehle said that Webb police coverage will not be affected during the situation, due to an existing arrangement where scheduling gaps in the Town of Webb are being filled by the New York State Police.

This cooperative arrangement will be in effect throughout the summer, Riehle said.
