Richard Bird of Old Forge and Raquette Lake has been awarded a Length of Service Certificate and a Board Member Service Medal in recognition of his work as a Board Member to the Selective Service System of the United States.
The recognition coincides with Bird’s retirement after 20 years of serving on the local board.
The awards were presented by Lawrence G. Romo, Director of Selective Service in Arlington, VA.
Romo acknowledged Bird’s civic dedication and patriotic commitment to the U.S. in serving on the board.
“On behalf of the President of the United States and members of the Selective Service System, I thank you for your devotion to duty as a Board Member,” Romo wrote in a presentation statement to Bird.
He also was acknowledged by Region Director Thomas J. Kenney, who encouraged Bird to consider an appointment to the State Resource Volunteer Program (SRV).
An SRV works directly with the State Director—who selects him—and other state personnel.
“Your valuable experience as a Board Member would be an asset,” Kenney stated.
