Goodsell Museum: Lectures on Lawn kick off

The Town of Webb Historical Association’s summer Lectures on the Lawn series will begin on Tuesday, July 15 with a slideshow presentation, The 1928 Diary of Lottie Tuttle, by Town of Webb Historian Peg Masters and Therese Capone.

The program will illustrate life in Old Forge in 1928 from the perspective of Tuttle, who along with her artist husband Orley, owned the former Bay View Hotel. Lottie was also the first licensed female guide in New York State.

On Thursday July 17, William “Jay” O’Hern and Nancy Best will present, Preserving Adirondack Stories: One Story at a Time.

Each will tell how their writing began with a childhood spirit of adventure, a love for Adirondack History, and an interest in writing.

O’Hern has written over 15 books of Adirondack stories. As a young author he interviewed residents, researched journals, diaries and letters from Adirondack natives, and uncovered the key to his writing style.

Best’s family was one of the first to settle in Old Forge. Inspired by childhood memories, she has authored two cook books and one original children’s book.

Lectures begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be held on the side lawn or in the carriage barn of the Goodsell Museum, 2993 State Rt. 28, across from the Post Office. All are welcome to bring a folding chair or blanket.
