Elizabeth Scheidelman Droz of Old Forge and Utica recently attended her college reunion at Cornell University in Ithaca, accompanied by her daughter in-law, Elizabeth C. Droz.
During the visit the women toured the campus and said they were impressed with all the new developments, including the new Bill and Melinda Gates Hall, home of Computing and Information Science at Cornell.
The elder Droz was reminded of the many firsts that occurred at Cornell: The establishment of the first university press, the first Ivy League university to go coeducational, and the first to offer a course in hotel management. (The Statler Hotel, where the women stayed, is managed by university students.)
As a student at the college, Droz was president of her senior class and a member of both the junior and senior honor societies. She also served on the board of the Cornell Daily Sun.
“It was wonderful to be back on the beautiful campus surrounded by gorges,” Droz said.
