High school senior, William Johnson, 18, has lived in Otter Lake his whole life.
In the fall, he plans to further his education at Clarkson University, where he will pursue major degrees in Physical Therapy and Psychology and a minor degree in Business.
“I’ve had a lot of sports related injuries; I’m familiar with physical therapy,” he said. “Seeing how they treat their patients, makes me want to take on the role.”
Johnson’s favorite classes are Advance Placement Government with Mr. Tim Leach and Advance Placement Biology with Miss Harmer.
“I can’t pick a favorite teacher, I like them all,” he said.
William plays a number of sports including basketball, which is his favorite.
He runs cross-country, participates in track and is also a member of the soccer team.
He was injured playing soccer this year, so he didn’t get much time on the field.
Will is a member of Varsity Club, National Honor Society, Key Club, Science Club, and Stage Crew.
He was named the Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks’ Student of the Month in November and was also named the Kiwanis Club’s Student of the Year in May.
In his spare time, Will enjoys being outdoors playing any kind of sport. “That’s one of the reasons I chose to go to Clarkson; I love the outdoors, and Clarkson’s a lot like Old Forge,” he said.
Will’s parents are Kathy Sullivan and Victor Johnson.
In summers past, Will has been with Enchanted Forest/ Water Safari, but hasn’t decided where he’ll work this summer.
He has two brothers: James, who works at Trackside Garage in Thendara. His older brother Daryl, who passed away from epilepsy.
Will said his mother has influenced him the most.
“Raising my brothers and me on her own was really hard at times. She kept fighting through it and never gave up. She really showed me what it was like to work hard for something,” he said.
He said he’s going to miss Old Forge and how close everyone is.
“I like the fact that everyone knows everyone, and if you ever need help with anything, the community comes together as one,” he said.
Will said he’s going to miss Columbus Day the most when high school ends. “I liked hanging out with my friends, working on our floats. I will definitely look forward to returning for Columbus Day to reunite and watch the soccer games.”
