Senior Jordan Levi, 17, began attending Town of Webb school, when she moved to Old Forge from Inlet in the 5th grade. After graduation, she will be attending the University of Maine, where she plans to major in Animal and Vet Science and minor in Equine Science.
Her passion for animals, including her own pets, attracted her to the animal science field.
When she started horseback riding a couple years ago at Anne Phinney’s Moose River Farm in Old Forge, she knew that horses would be a primary focus.
“They’re an interesting animal, I really want to learn more about them,” she said.
Jordan’s favorite class is AP Biology, which is taught at Webb by her favorite teacher, Ms. Harmer.
“This class is my favorite because it really goes along with what I’m going to be studying in college,” Jordan said. “Ms. Harmer really understands her students, so she’s easy to understand, as is her subject.”
Jordan plays soccer and had played volleyball till this year, when she had to add space in her schedule.
She plays acoustic guitar in her spare time. She was taught the instrument by local musician, Jim Tracy.
She said it’s enjoyable, and she loves learning new songs.
Jordan is member of Varsity Club and Big Sisters Club.
When shes not in school, she said she loves to be outdoors, fishing, hiking and canoeing.
She has climbed all 46 of the Adirondacks’ high peaks, having finished the feat last June. Her longest hike was 26 miles.
Her mountain climbing interest piqued at the age of 13, when she attended the Adirondack Woodcraft Camp in Old Forge.
“We hiked a mountain once with my favorite counselors and all my friends. When we got to the top, the view was breathtaking. It made me want to keep hiking different mountains, just to see the views,” she said.
Jordan’s parents are John and Therá Levi.
Therá is a court clerk at the Town of Webb Court and works as a Holistic Therapist. John is a logger with Levi Lumber, the family business.
Jordan has 4 sisters. Amanda, 31, is a receptionist at Countryside Vet Clinic. Morgan, 23, is in Germany working on her master’s degree in English Literature. Whitney, 21, lives in Utica and works at Bennu Cafe in Whitesboro. Alex, 19, is finishing her Associate’s degree and plans to attend SUNY Oswego.
Jordan says her sisters influenced her most; they were always high achievers in school, and she wanted to follow in their footsteps.
This summer she plans to waitress at The Ole Barn, in Inlet, where she currently works. She also wants to waitress at the Tamarack Cafe.
Her favorite high school memory is of Columbus Day weekends. “I love competing with the other classes to make the best float. It was always so much fun,” Jordan said.
Jordan said moving to Maine for college will be a big step.
“I’ve lived in a small town all my life, where everyone knows each other. I’m going to miss Old Forge a lot,” she said.
