View: New exhibits opening March 15th

Three new exhibits showcasing pottery, watercolors and ceramic sculptures will open with a reception at View on Saturday, March 15th.

The pottery exhibit, Adirondack Rockware, which will be on view in the Henry M. Kashiwa Gallery, features the work of Peter Shrope. The glazes for his pottery are made from crushed Adirondack rock.

A watercolor exhibit by Bob Ripley, Over and Under: Adirondack Perspectives, will be displayed in the Foley Gallery.

Ripley creates images of the inhabitants and environs of the Adirondacks and this series of work was created specifically for the exhibition.

His artwork appeared on the commemorative poster for the 2013 Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors, and he was the winner of the 2013 Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors Popular Vote Award.

A ceramic sculpture exhibit, Strange Union II, features the work of artists Maarney McDiarmid and Maggie Hogan who combine wire and ceramics to create elaborate organic sculpture works.

The reception is open to the public and will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Following the reception all are welcome to stay for a dance party in Gould Hall from 7 to 10 p.m. featuring the music of Al Nathan and Bluestreak.

The new exhibits will run concurrently with the Winter Air exhibition that is on display through April 27th. Admission for the exhibitions is $6 or $3 for members. Groups of 10 or more will be discounted by $2 per person.
