Principal’s Report:

• We are in the midst of midterm week with the first day having gone smoothly with the first semester and second quarter ending on Friday, January 24.

• On Thursday, 1/16 our teachers took part in Smart board training with Kim Casselman from BOCES.

• Our Superintendent’s Half Day on Friday was a success with Model Schools coming in to train teachers using Google Docs as well as the Flipped Classroom.

• Our 9–12 Class Presidents and Vice-presidents traveled to the Herkimer County Youth Summit earlier this year to address problems that our school is facing as well as other schools in the county.

The main topic that our student leaders felt we needed to address was bullying and gossiping. They worked diligently to put together two assemblies for their peers.

This took place on Wednesday, January 15th during 8th period (Elementary) and 10th Period (Jr./Sr.High).

The elementary assembly focused on tattling and leaving others out.

• On Saturday, January 11th our Student Council hosted the first annual Snow Ball dance for 6th through 8th grade students. The students had a great time and we look forward to hosting it again next year!

• Congratulations to all students who received a Webb Way Chain Link or Ice Cube for the second quarter. These students will be recognized on our website.

• The Webb Way dinner last Monday, 1/13 raised just over $300 selling 65 dinners to the community. Thank you to everyone who came out to support this.

• Our boys’ basketball team is playing tonight in the gymnasium followed by the girls’ basketball team.

Superintendent’s Report included the topics:

Fitness Center – update regarding progress and plans for future.

Building – general cleaning as well as some hallway painting done over break.

Tax Levy Limit supplied by the State is 1.46%.

Consulting Agreement – We have the updated agreement to review and possibly sign for First Niagara to conduct consulting services related to our health insurance coverage.

Governor’s announcements – The governor has made some announcements related to the upcoming budget and specifically has called out schools in the process.

He noted the compliance of teacher evaluations once the funding increases were tied to the compliance.

He also noted tax breaks for households in districts that had proven that they are doing what is necessary to merge and share services.

We will know more specifics of the plan hopefully soon, but he stated the tax cap is working and he expects we will have fewer school districts and municipalities moving forward if people expect to be funded.

2014-15 School Calendar – BOCES has put out a first draft of the proposal but the State released their dates for testing last week.

These dates sat directly within the proposed Spring Break which will cause the BOCES calendar to be looked at again.

We will have to make some decisions about our calendar based on the draft and the fact that our calendar contains fewer days then the other districts in our BOCES.

State Aide preliminary runs were released today.

Operations, Mainten-ance and Transportation committee met and discussed the need for a building project for roof/wall repair/replacement and accordion gym wall failure.

The next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, February 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. Approved minutes are posted to www.towschool.org
