VIEW: Winter Air exhibition to open Jan. 18

View, the arts center in Old Forge, will bring the magic of winter to life at the January 18 opening of its latest exhibit, Winter Air.

This juried exhibition of 118 works by 58 national and international artists will fill the Community Gallery and will include works that convey the sensations of walking outside on a cold winter’s day.W005

An opening reception, open to the public, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. with wine, beer, and hors d’oeuvres available.

The Winter Air exhibition will be complemented by three other art exhibitions that will also be featured at the opening reception.

Paintings by Chris Baker titled “London and France” will be on display in the Atrium and Balcony galleries.

Baker’s paintings convey a sense of light reminiscent of the great American painter Edward Hopper.

A longtime arts educator and resident of Weedsport, Baker is represented by the Oxford Gallery in Rochester and Meibohm Fine Arts in East Aurora.

He has shown extensively throughout Central and Western New York, and is a several time award winner in the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors.

The Foley Gallery will have paintings by Drayton Jones, titled “33 Watercolors.”

Jones paints the environs of Central New York and beyond in light, expressive gestures and washes of color.

He is a member of the CNY Watercolor Society and has exhibited throughout the area.

He is a regular participant in View’s Plein Air Paint Out and has had work featured in the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors.

Additionally, in the Vandervort Gallery will be new paintings by Amy Mclaren titled “Push and Pull.” McLaren is an artist and educator residing in Rochester. She has shown widely throughout the Northeast and is represented by the Oxford Gallery in Rochester.

Her paintings are whimsical allegories that explore loss and control of identity.

Admission for the Winter Air Exhibition, on display through April 27, is $6 or $3 for members. Groups of 10 or more will be discounted by $2 per person. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free.
