One Square Mile of Hope: Informational meeting set January 13

The One Square Mile of Hope Committee recently announced it will attempt to regain the Guinness World Record for the largest floating raft in an event scheduled for September 13 in Inlet.

The committee, led by co-chairs Connie Perry and Carolyn Belknap, will be joined by the Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks in bringing paddlers together to regain the record that was set in 2011, when 1,902 vessels assembled on Fourth Lake.

The event also served as a breast cancer research fundraiser, bringing in over $80,000 for the cause.

The record was broken by a group at Sutton’s Bay on Lake Michigan in August 2013 which brought together 2,099 boats.

“That’s an awesome number, but we know that it is not insurmountable,” Perry said.

While the OSM 2014 Committee has been working behind the scenes to set the stage for this latest endeavor, they invite community members from across the area to the Woods Inn in Inlet on Monday, January 13 at 7 p.m. for an informational meeting about the event and to discuss ways they can get involved.

Following a brief presentation, members of the committee will be available to answer questions from the audience. Refreshments will be provided compliments of BJ Queen Enterprises.

Anyone who cannot attend but would like to be involved in some way can contact the Inlet Informa-tion Office at (315) 357-5501.
