The trustees of the Town of Webb Historical Association are inviting all members and the public to its annual Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 8.
The event, which will be held at the Goodsell Museum at 2993 State Route 28, will mark the official opening of the organization’s featured exhibit, “Webb: Wired to Wireless-Technology Comes to Town,” that illustrates the techological changes brought to the area in the last hundred years.
This year’s event will be dedicated to the late Robert Lowenberg, a longtime board member, past president, and dedicated volunteer who passed away on August 7 of this year.
Lowenberg is remembered by present Historical Association Director Kate Lewis and past director Gail Murray as being an invaluable asset to the organization.
Murray said he went above and beyond his duty as president. She said he dropped by the museum almost daily to check on things and tend to the on-going bottle and can drive which became his personal pet project.
Lewis agreed.
“As a board member and volunteer, he was very involved and always came to our aid when needed,” she said.
“During our annual auctions he was there to set up and clean-up—enlisting the help of his son-in-law and grandson. And he’d check on the can and bottle drop box every day and take the time to sort them out. We affectionately referred to him as ‘Bottle Bob’ or ‘Captain Can.’ He is greatly missed,” Lewis said.
The Open House will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
The Goodsell Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. year around and by appointment. Admission is free. More information about the museum can be found at webbhistory.org.
