VIEW: 3rd Annual Plein Air Paint-Out slated for Labor Day Weekend

The Third Annual Plein Air Paint Out presented by View, the new arts center in Old Forge, is scheduled to take place over Labor Day weekend from Friday, September 2 through Sunday, September 4.

En Plein Air is a French expression which means “in the open air”, and is used to describe the act of creating works of art, particularly paintings, outdoors.

This term was first popularized in the mid-19th century when working with natural light became principally important to the Impressionist painters of the time.

Many of the works created by French Impressionist painters Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir were created en plein air, which allowed viewers of their work to experience the beauty of the natural landscape in a way that had never been done before.

Throughout Labor Day weekend, visitors to Old Forge will have the opportunity to view paintings created live and en plein air by over 45 celebrated artists.

The event kicks off on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at View with complimentary admission to the First Friday Art Walk as well as a scavenger hunt for the children.

There will also be a special exhibition reception for Jason Tennant’s “Nike of the Forest” and Peter Chamberlain’s “hyBridge”.

This year’s event has expanded to include a “Paint Your Palette” cocktail party on Saturday, September 3 between 5 and 8 p.m. at View.

Saturday’s event will consist of a variety of international hors d-oeuvres as well as a beer, wine, and soda tasting sponsored in part by Saranac Brewery, Montezuma Winery, and Old Forge Liquors.

Throughout the event, visitors will have the opportunity to view pieces of work on display and for sale, by participating artists as well as to participate in a silent auction for works that are to be created during the event to live music.

Tickets are $15 and are available at View.
