Webb prescription drug drop box available at Police Dept.

The Herkimer County Prevention Council’s Prescription Drop Box has recently been moved from the Village or Frankfort Police Department to its new location at the Town of Webb Police Department on Route 28 in Old Forge.

Residents are welcome to drop off their unwanted, unused, or expired medications/prescriptions at the Town of Webb Police Department during the day between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. when a police officer is present at the station or by appointment by calling (315) 369-6915.

The Herkimer County Prevention Council, a program of Catholic Charities, will continue to provide the drop box to assist local police departments in their efforts to remove prescription drugs from circulation in Herkimer County.

Prescription drug abuse has become a growing epidemic with one in four teens—24 percent in 2012—reporting misuse or abuse of a prescription drug at least once in their lifetime.

That figure is up from 18 percent in 2008.

Proper disposal of medications is one prevention measure of the abuse.

For more information on the prescription drop box,  contact Maureen Petrie at the Herkimer County Prevention Council at (315) 894-9917 ext. 244 or check their website at www.herkimercountyprevention.org.
