The event, which was hosted by the Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks and Justin, Gary and Carol VanRiper, creators of the Adirondack Kids series of books, featured a petting zoo, bouncy house, face painting, mini-golf and opportunities to meet the authors of books geared for children.

Outdoor recreation experts were on-hand to offer instructions on knot tying, hiking, paddling and fishing. Among them were paddling expert Connie Perry of Inlet’s Frisky Otter Tours.

Theresa Taylor of Long Lake who gave lessons on how to cast a line said there were as many parents as there were kids seeking instruction on the angling skill.

Magic shows proved to be event highlights as Magician Jim Oakey attracted large audiences for his interactive performances.
