Fire fighters representing fire stations from across the state took part in the Old Forge Fire Department’s Drill School on Friday and Saturday, September 13 and 14th.
One of the highlights of the annual event is the Saturday parade up Main Street.
According to parade judge Jack Graham there were twice as many marchers then he had seen in previous years.
During the parade, the departments were judged in a number of categories. The winners were as follows:
Best Appearing Fire Depart-ment with Music: 1st – Brighton Fire Department; 2nd – Lyncourt Fire Department; and 3rd – Chatham Fire Department.
Best Appearing Fire Depart-ment without Music: 1st – Sauquoit Fire Department; 2nd – Colonie Emergency Service Battalion; and 3rd – Cedarville Fire Department.
Best Appearing Fire Auxiliary: 1st – Colonie Fire Auxiliary; 2nd – Chatham Fire Auxiliary; and 3rd – Cedarville Fire Auxiliary.

Most Fire Fighters in Line of March – Brighton Fire Depart-ment with 47 members
Best Looking Fire Depart-ment Color Guard – Chatham Fire Department

Best Looking Fire Apparatus – Sylvan Beach Fire Department
Oldest Antique Fire Apparatus – Forestport Fire Department
Best Looking Antique Fire Appartus – Peter Holmes – Westmoreland Fire Department
On Friday afternoon, the Water Push Ball Competition took place in front of the Old Forge Fire House. This year, 28 teams participated in the challenge. Taking first place was Brewerton Fire Department. Cicero Fire Department came in second, Hinrod Fire Deparment in third, and the Oriskany Fire Ladies took fourth place.
