Thendara tops Inlet to take possession of Roland Christy Cup

The 16th Annual Roland Christy Cup, a friendly match-play event held between the Inlet Golf Club and Thendara Golf Club was held at the Thendara club on Sunday, September 15th.

The match was very close all around and wasn’t decided until the last putt on the 18th hole when Thendara edged out Inlet to win the cup.

The prize will be on display at Thendara’s club house until next year’s event.

Following play, competitors and their spouses enjoyed  dinner provided by the Grill Room.

In the 16 years of the tournament, Thendara has taken the cup nine times and Inlet seven times.

The annual golf competition was established in 1998 as a friendly annual tournament between the Thendara and Inlet Golf Clubs in recognition of the decades of dedication to both clubs by Roland Christy.

Roland, an Old Forge native, was a ten-time Thendara Club champion. At the end of the 2012 season, he had served as Inlet’s head pro for 40 years. He passed away on April 24 of this year at the age of 89.
