John Brennan has been hired as the new marketing manager at View. Brennan has a number of years of experience in marketing, primarily in the private sector.
“We’re really excited to have someone in the position. We went through the whole summer without a marketing position, and having the position filled is key,” said View Executive Director Jennifer Potter Hayes.
Brennan’s responsibilities of this position are to increase View’s visibility and visitation by developing and implementing a marketing strategy.
He anticipates doing marketing on a higher level and bringing fresh light on ways to open up new markets.
“Visiting View should be on the top of people’s list as far as things to do in Old Forge,” he said.
He anticipates exploring opportunities with the New York State Tourism office, among others, in making View a destination.
According to Hayes, Brennan will be focused more externally than the previous position to raise the visibility of “who we are and what we do.”
That increased visibility will come from expanding View’s marketing to Western New York beyond Rochester, into the Capital district and Western New England and down into the Hudson Valley.
Some of this will be achieved by developing relationships with arts editors and entertainment writers as well as by reaching out to arts, cultural and tourism networks, said Hayes.
Brennan said he wants to work closely with the staff to promote View to larger areas through electronic and social media.
Previous responsibilities for this position focused on design of all print production and establishing View’s brand. Much of the design and production of materials will now be contracted out, although Brennan will oversee the production of all publications. However, Hayes said View will continue to have a summer intern for design and production work.
Brennan most recently worked at PAR Technology Corporation in various positions all related to point of sale marketing including World Wide Product Marketing Manager.
He held the position of Director of Marketing at Saranac Brewery and worked at the Business College at Utica School of Commerce.
Brennan has a B.A. in Management from Hartwick College.
He grew up in Barneveld and spent many years coming to the Old Forge area to hike local trials and ski McCauley Mountain.
One of his goals has always been to move here.
He has long been a patron of View and is “passionate about the arts.” He and his family currently live in Prospect.
