Niccolls to host estate planning workshop

Niccolls Memorial Presby-terian Church invites the community to participate in an informational workshop on planning for life’s eventualities.

This session will help one to explore, with one’s family, specific plans for one’s final years, including consideration of a living will or health care proxy, planning for emergency and/or long term care, and disposition of property.

The workshop, Living Faith-fully, Living Well: Stewardship of Our Whole Lives, will take place on Saturday, September 7 at 9 a.m. in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

A team including medical, legal, and financial professionals in addition to the chaplain of the Presbyterian Home in New Hartford will each present information pertinent to their field. Plenty of time is scheduled for questions from attendees.

“In the majority of the over 90 funerals and memorials I’ve officiated, families confess that they never talked about a celebration of life—whether it may be a funeral or memorial service—with their loved one.

“I’ve seen unforeseen and unwelcome events unfold so quickly in a family’s life simply because they never talked about a living will, health care proxy and other such related matters,” said Rev. Lawrence Bartel, pastor of Niccolls Church.

If you are unsure whether this workshop is for you, Pastor Lawrence offers this criteria:

If you feel daunted by the changing medical or legal forms, if you need a few questions answered before talking to your spouse or children, or if you want a little more information before sitting down with your parent(s)—this workshop is for you.

There is no charge to attend the workshop. Walk-ins are welcomed, but reservations are requested. Anyone interested in attending can call the church office at (315) 369-3475 or e-mail niccolls@frontiernet.net.

Niccolls Memorial Church is located at 228 Crosby Blvd. in Old Forge, next to the library.
