Return of prized possession has its rewards

During all the excitement of last February’s Winter Carnival at McCauley Mountain, Carnival King Deke Morrison misplaced his treasured 1980 Winter Olympics ski hat.

The hat had great sentimental value to Morrison as he wore it while starting the Women’s Alpine Events at the Lake Placid Olympics, as well as many Polar Bear Ski Team races.

He wrote a letter to The Weekly Adirondack, asking Carnival-goers for assistance in finding it.

The day the letter was published, Scott Gaffney, a Town of Webb employee, called to say that his son Anthony had found the hat.

Not one to let a good deed go unnoticed, Morrison returned the favor on Friday, August 30th when he picked up Anthony, his father, and sister Jamie at the Old Forge Navigation Docks in his vintage boat.

Morrison treated the trio to lunch, a tour of the Fulton Chain, and a pitstop in Inlet to enjoy gelato at Northern Lights.
