CAP-21’s annual CAP-PY Duck Derby is set for Sunday, September 1 and all are invited to join in the fun by adopting a single or flock of ducks for an opportunity to win a variety of prizes, including a possible prize of $100,000.
Ducks are $5 each or $20 for a flock of five and can be purchased online at www.cap-21.org, at the CAP-21 office at Hemmer Cottage, the Old Forge Visitor Information Center, and the Old Forge Farmers’ Market on Fridays from 1 to 5 p.m.
Ducks will also be for sale at the Old Forge busy corner over the next two weekends.
The ducks will be dropped over the Old Forge bridge into the Moose River at noon the day of the event.
Any of the first 15 finishers crossing the finish line will have an opportunity to win the big prize of $100,000 through a co-sponsorship with OddsOn Promotions of Las Vegas.
Prior to dropping the ducks, a CAP-21 representative will call OddsOn and give them the final count of ducks sold. OddsOn will select a single number within the range of the final count, and if that number is among the first 15 ducks to cross the finish its owner will win $100,000.
Aside from the possible big prize, there are 11 additional prizes:
Grand Prize – $1,000, donated by Adirondack Bank and Enchanted Forest/Water Safari;
2nd – Stained glass window donated by Meyda Tiffany valued at $500;
3rd – Zydeco Dagger kayak, donated by Mountainman Outdoor Supply valued At $450;
4th – Gift Basket donated by Old Forge Hardware valued at $300;
5th – $250 cash donated by Foley Law Firm;
6th – Rafting trip donated by Adirondack River Outfitters (ARO) valued At $240;
7th – Two 5-day ski passes to McCauley Mountain donated by Town of Webb valued at $238;
8th – $100 cash donated by Meyda Lighting;
9th – $100 cash donated by Benny’s Ice Cream;
10th – $100 cash donated By Nutty Putty Miniature Golf;
11th – View Family Membership and National Exhibition of American Watercolors poster donated by View.
The Old Forge American Legion Post #893 Ladies Auxiliary will be selling hotdogs and hamburgers on the premises beginning at 11 a.m.
The CAP-PY Duck Derby is a major fundraiser for Central Adirondack Partnership for the 21st Century, Inc. Proceeds will support its community revitalization programs including community grants, the Old Forge Farmer’s Market, waterfront revitalization, trails development, and flower baskets.
