VIEW: Canal Street String Band to perform

The Canal Street String Band will perform at View in Old Forge  at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 22nd.

With three voices, 55 strings and a pair of cow bones, The Canal Street String Band puts a new twist on some old American music including fiddle tunes, sea shanties, cowboy songs, canal ditties, mountain music, western swing, and their own original works.

The songs will be performed with a variety of instruments from banjo to fiddle, twin mandolins, string bass, dobro, guitar, octave mandolin, assorted “pocket” instruments, and three-part harmonies. 

Canal Street String band is made up of a cast of acclaimed musicians and performers.

Phil Banaszak plays fiddle, mandolin and guitar, and sings. He is a New York State fiddle champion and member of the North American Fiddlers Hall of Fame.

Dave Ruch is a full-time musician, performer and music teacher who sings, plays mandolin, guitar, banjo, octave mandolin, bones, spoons, jaw harp and others.

Jim Whitford is a Buffalo Music Hall of Famer and rocks the string bass as well as playing dobro and guitar.
