Webb School Senior Spotlight- Ryan Queen

Ryan Queen interested in studying business after graduation

High school senior, Ryan Queen, 17, of Inlet attended Inlet Common School through sixth grade, then transferred to the Town of Webb school in seventh grade.

He plans to attend Onondaga Community College and will likely study Business Administration.

“After two years at OCC, I may transfer to a state school for another two years,” he said.

Since the beginning of his senior year he has participated in the General Education Work Experience Program. He works mornings for his father at BJ Queen Enterprises learning electrical, plumbing, and refrigeration skills.

At noon he returns to school to attend classes in English, Government, Economics and Gym.

He has been a member of Varsity Club since eighth grade, and his sports have included Soccer and Track.

“Our Track team was Sectional Champions for the past three years,” he said. Ryan’s main events are the 800 meter run, the mile, and the 4 x 8 relay. He added that he prefers distance running because it keeps him in shape.

Ryan was on the Nordic and Alpine Ski teams in seventh and eighth grades and he still skis downhill and does some snowboarding, he said.

He has also been a member of Travel Club and was in Junior and Senior Band until this year.

Last summer he was selected by the American Legion to attend Boys State.

“I learned quite a bit about how the government is run and how it works, and I was elected a Senator,” he said, adding that he may take some government courses in college.

His favorite teacher is Jed Kinney who teaches Government. “He’s an all-around good teacher, Ryan said.

Ryan said he is looking forward to graduation and admitted that he’s ready to move forward.

“I like the school. I learned a lot here and it’s a great school. I’d like to come back to Old Forge eventually, but it will be nice to get away and experience the rest of the world,” he said.

Ryan is the son of BJ and Kathy Queen of Inlet and he has a sister, Maggie, who is in the seventh grade.
