A group of Old Forge men and women joined approximately 1,500 other runners in competing in the 2013 Lake Placid Half and Full Marathon on Sunday, June 9th.
The weather was perfect for the race; cool and overcast in the early morning, and beautifully sunny for post-race celebrating.
The race began at 8 a.m. on Lake Placid’s Main Street in front of the Olympic Speed skating oval.
The course went through downtown and around beautiful Mirror Lake before heading out towards the Horseshow Grounds and the famous ski jump.
The course took runners along the Ausable River before turning back towards Lake Placid ending on a killer hill to finish on the Oval Ring.
The runners were appreciative of the many Old Forge supporters that cheered, rode bikes and took pictures along the way.
Great fun was had by all despite training challenges and knee injuries.
Most of the crew said they are looking forward to running the Utica Boilermaker in July.
Having participated in The Lake Placid Marathon for three years in a row, the event has turned into an annual tradition for these Old Forge runners.
