Local groups seeking alternatives to road salt, cite threat to Ad’k waters

Salt contamination of Adirondack streams, watersheds and aquifers from aggressive use of salt in winter road maintenance has become a major threat to the ecology of the Adirondacks, according to two local advocacy groups that plan to meet on Tuesday, September 16 to discuss the problem.

Finding ways to minimize or avoid this contamination threat, while keeping roads safe, is the goal of the third annual Adirondack Winter Road Maintenance Conference.  Continue reading
