Local quilt group stitches memories for families of deployed slodiers

The Pointed Pine Quilters of Old Forge are making lap quilts for the children of soldiers that are soon to be deployed from Fort Drum.

The quilts feature nine blocks of the soldiers’ family photos that have been scanned and transferred to fabric.

The project is sponsored by Project Strong, a program initiated by the YMCA of Watertown.

The idea was proposed locally by Sandy White, a member of the Pointed Pine Quilters, who learned of the project while attending a recent Quilters Consortium.

The quilting group make quilts as fundraisers for area organizations, but according to White, they were looking for a new project to tackle. Continue reading
