Community Foundation announces 14 Town of Webb grant recipients

The Town of Webb Fund, a donor-advised fund of The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, recently made grants to 14 organizations that serve Town of Webb community members, according to Peggy O’Shea, president and CEO of The Community Foundation.

The recipients of the 2011 Town of Webb Fund grants are:

Arts Guild of Old Forge received support toward purchasing a digital projector for Gould Hall, the primary venue for theater and special events.

Big Moose Ambulance Company, Inc. was awarded a grant to help fund CPR education and the purchase of additional radios.

CAP-21 received a grant to strengthen its administrative infrastructure.

Catholic Charities will put its award toward bringing speaker Matt Bellace to the Town of Webb school district, to talk to students about being leaders in their own lives, school and community.

Central Adirondack Search & Rescue Team will use its grant for construction costs and to purchase search equipment.

Community Transportation Services received support to continue providing transportation for older adults to and from medical appointments, grocery stores and pharmacies.

Friends of Polar Bears, Inc. received financial support for the purchase of Nordic skis and boots.

Home Aide Service of the Central Adirondacks (HASCA) received a grant to enable them to continue providing in-home care for elderly residents of the town.

Kommunity Youth and Activity Center will continue to offer young people the opportunity to use their teen drop-in center with the grant they received.

NELA Forest Education Initiative will use its grant to help hire a Summer Forest Education Intern.

North Woods Community Center houses several not-for-profit organizations under one roof, and will use their grant to invest in operating support.

Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corp will purchase radios and protective gear with their grant.

Old Forge Volunteer Fire Department received funding that will help pay for rescue vehicle equipment.

Town of Webb Historical Association was awarded a grant that will help them continue to offer exhibits to the public.

The Town of Webb Fund directs its assets exclusively to organizations serving the Town of Webb, and appeals to the charitable interests of part-time (seasonal) residents who represent nearly 75 percent of the town’s residents.

The fund is designed to fill a gap, recognized in most resort communities, where the combined needs of year-round and seasonal residents are greater than the year-round community alone is able to provide.

“This unique fund has supported many worthy organizations that serve the Town of Webb over the years, from services for seniors and youth to the arts to emergency responders and many more,” Peggy O’Shea said.

“Many of the fund’s supporters are part-time residents, which is testament to the connection they feel with their seasonal hometown and neighbors,” she added.

The Community Foundation was started in 1952 to improve lives and promote philanthropy throughout Herkimer and Oneida.

The Foundation has made more than 4,700 grants totaling over $37.2 million in support of causes ranging from education to health care, the arts to the environment.

Grants are generated by the more than 285 funds that comprise The Foundation’s endowment, established and advanced by area individuals and families.

Since its inception in 2005, the Town of Webb Fund has made a total of 83 grants in the amount of $135,200.
