4G service on the horizon as AT&T Seeks to upgrade McCauley tower

Four-G cell coverage will be coming to the area, possibly by this summer, according to Town of Webb Supervisor Ted Riehle and Councilman Mike Ross, who discussed the topic at Tuesday’s Town of Webb Board meeting.

Ross described recent discussions with AT&T, National Grid, the APA, and General Dynamics, a subsidiary of AT&T, to modify the existing cell tower located atop McCauley Mountain.

“I got a hold of AT&T and they want to upgrade the system,” Councilman Ross said. “It is going to be a lot better—and yes, it will be 4G, from what they told me.”

The statement was given in response to an inquiry by Lori Zellweger, an Old Forge resident and interested cell user.

Company describes plan to bring tower, cell service to Inlet

Daniel Schweigard, a representative of Independent Towers Holdings, LLC, a wireless communications tower company, approached the Inlet Town Board at their monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 13 about the possibility of placing a cell phone tower in Inlet.

Schweigard has been talking to the board for the past few years about utilizing some high ground behind Fern Park for the creation of a cell phone tower, according to Town Supervisor John Frey.

Earlier this week, Frey said Schweigard was approached by AT&T who, according to Frey, is seeking to place six towers in various areas of the Adirondack Park. Continue reading
