Young Nordic Polar Bears place well at Osceola meet

Eight Polar Bear nordic skiers competed at races at Osceola Ski Center in Osceola on Sunday, February 9th. Forty youth racers representing Rochester, Cooperstown, Syracuse and Camden also took part in the races with the largest number of participants in the U12 boys age group.  Continue reading

Morgan Payne named Kiwanis Student of Month for February

The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks has announced that its Student of the Month for February is Morgan Payne.

Morgan is the daughter of Tom and Anne Payne of Old Forge and is a senior at Town of Webb Union Free School.1383486_4884079679177_2030244797_n

The Student of the Month is a program initiated by the Kiwanis Club, in cooperation with the Town of Webb School, that recognizes senior students.

Each month from September to April the school administrators select a Student of the Month who will receive $50 and with his/her parents are invited to a Kiwanis Recognition Event to make a brief presentation.
In May, the Kiwanis Scholar-ship Committee will select a Student of the Year who will receive $500.

The Town of Webb Police Benevolent Association (PBA) will partner with Central Adirondack Kiwanis in the Student of the Year award.

The selection criteria for the program includes community service, academics, athletic involvement, student need, and extra curricular activities.

View announces Best in Show artist of Winter Air Exhibition

Alice Valenti was chosen as Best in Show Artist for the Winter Air exhibition that is currently on display at View, the arts center in Old Forge. Valenti, of Baltimore, MD, has three mixed media works on view that incorporate aspects of collage, painting and drawing.

The artists whose works are included in the exhibit were asked for visual submissions that convey the very distinct but intangible sensations of walking outside on a cold winter’s day.

Judges for the event were Joan Herrmann, an acclaimed artist who lives in Barneveld; Jennifer Potter Hayes, executive director at View; and Cory Card, exhibition manager at View.
