OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEileen Downey Jost, 87, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 26, 2013 while vacationing with her family on Cape Cod. She resided in Newmarket, NH.

Eileen was born on May 10, 1926 in Bridgeport, CT, daughter of the late James and Kathryn Downey, sister to the late Robert Downey, and loving ife o the late Frank E. Jost.

Eileen was a proud graduate of Laurelton Hall, Bridgeport, CT. After graduation she worked at General Electric and spent many years volunteering at the American Red Cross.

Eileen devoted her life to raising her family; leaving behind four sons: James K. of Newmarket, NH, Kevin R. (Candice) of Naples, FL, Brian C. (Smitty) of Lakewood, CO and Thomas R. (Kim) of Dover, NH; six grandchildren, Jason (Robin), Richard (Kristi), Jonathan, Kendra, Ian and Riley; and four great grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew, Emma and Piper. Eileen is also survived by her brother Richard J. (Betsy) Downey of Lee, NH, along with many nieces and nephews.

Eileen was known by her friends as being a “sweet, classy lady.” Having once owned a camp on Third Lake, she has been visiting the Old Forge area for over 50 years. She cherished her family and loved spending time with them in the Adirondacks.

She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who knew her as Grams, and GiGi.

A celebration of life service will be held, Friday, July 5 at10 a.m. at St. Barthelomew’s Church in Old Forge.
