Spring service planned for Harold L. Moon, 93

Harold L. Moon, 93, a longtime resident of Woodhull Road in Forestport, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, March 9, 2013.

Harold was born at home on April 17, 1919, the son of Orin L. and Hazel R. Griffith Moon. He spent his childhood and attended school in Woodgate.

On September 14, 1940, Harold was united in marriage with Gudrun Buck at Trinity Episcopal Church, Boonville. This was a blessed union of 61 years, until Mrs. Moon’s passing on March 21, 2002.

Harold was employed with the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. of Utica and retired in 1979 after 30 years of service. Beginning in 1980, Harold and Gudrun enjoyed their stays in Arcadia, FL during the winter months.

Harold was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both the sports of hunting and fishing. He was a member of the White Otter Fish and Game Club, an honorary life member of the Forestport Fire Fighters, a member of the Trackside Blazers Snowmobile Club, and a member of the Boonville-Uriel Lodge of Masons.

Harold is survived by his daughter,  Hazel Sears, Woodgate; six grandchildren: Robert Failing III of St. Johnsville, Mary Beth (Richard) Hudyncia of Fort Plain, Lynn (David) Briggs of Fort Plain, Amanda Failing of Syracuse, Kristan Sears of Ohio, and Stacie Sears of Burlington, VT; five great-grandchildren: Toria Briggs, Anderson Briggs, Liza Hudyncia, Kiernan Briggs and Mackenzie Failing; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is also survived by his friends Terry Larkin and Pete Scouten of Forestport, and his caretakers and good friends Fred Washburn of Poland, Janelle Kranbuhl of Alder Creek, and Tonya Brown of Forestport, and his feline companion of eight years, Fran.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his siblings Lela Moon and Eldridge Moon, his son-in-law Richard F. Sears, and by an infant granddaughter.

A memorial graveside service will be held in Beechwood Cemetery, Forestport in the spring at a time and date to be announced.

Keeping with Harold’s wishes there will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Forestport Fire Fighters, Inc., 11965 River Road, Forestport, NY 13338 or to the Prospect Volunteer Ambulance, Inc., 915 Trenton Falls Road, Prospect, NY 13435.

His arrangements have been entrusted to the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville.
