Town of Webb gearing up for July 5 switch to Single Stream Recycling

Councilman J.B. Herron, due to his experiences in the waste hauling business, has spearheaded the Town of Webb’s conversion to more efficient waste disposal practices and infrastructure modifications in positioning the town for the county waste authority’s new single stream recycling requirements.

He gave a presentation to the town board at its meeting Tuesday, to update them on the project.

According to Herron, the compactor unit will be completed soon at the town’s transfer station.

And for the sake of efficiency and overall cost savings, new compactor trucks may need to be budgeted for in the future.

The new single stream recycling program is set for implementation starting on July 5th, according to the Oneida Herkimer Solid Waste Authority.

Those discarding household recyclables are expected to prepare them for collection as follows:

• All recyclable items—paper, plastic, metal, and glass—need to be mixed together loosely in one container.

• Recyclables must be placed in your designated recycling bin or a durable plastic or metal lidded container of your choice, under 35 gallons and not more than 50 pounds.

• Do not place recyclables in plastic bags for collection. No string, no trash or green waste.

Town Clerk Nanci Russell said stickers for identification of recycling containers can be picked up at her office sometime after June 20th.
