Elizabeth Russell, daughter of Nanci and John Russell of Old Forge, recently received the Student Chapter Advisor of the Year award from the International Association of Emergency Managers’ (IAEM) Student Region.

She received the award at the International Association of Emergency Managers Annual Conference held in Orlando, FL this past October.

The award recognizes an individual that has gone above and beyond the call of duty and made great strides in promoting the work of the Student Chapter and IAEM students as a whole.

Nominated for her work with the American Public University System, where she serves as a full-time professor as well as a student chapter advisor, Russell was nominated by a student.

In the nominating letter, the student stated: “Her (Elizabeth’s) experience as a full-time instructor and an IAEM member is a pivotal reason why the chapter has grown to over 277 members, twice what it was when she came aboard… she constantly instills in our membership the importance of growth in both professional and educational commitment.

“Professor Elizabeth Russell has shown dedication, commitment and a selfless attitude, which makes her an excellent candidate for Chapter Advisor of the Year. Her level of continued support surpasses the expectations of the student chapter and is most heartily commended.”

Russell is a 2006 Town of Webb graduate, holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Elmira College, and is currently serving as an emergency management consultant in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Lee that hit the Southern Tier of New York last fall.
