Letter to the Editor: Forestport project stalled

To the Editor:

The Forestport Town Supervisor is blocking construction of the new Twin Bridges by not signing an amendment to the contract.

The people voted on September 18 for a one lane bridge. On December 19th, the Board voted to proceed with Zangrilli’s (the engineering firm) December 17th plan.

The Town’s Attorney has advised him he must sign. Time is of the essence. If the engineers don’t have time to complete our plans and bid documents, we won’t be able to proceed with getting the bridges out for bid on February 1st.

The clock is ticking.

As of January 10th, twenty days will have passed without his signature. This will cost the taxpayers dearly!

The only recourse for the board is to hire an attorney and file an Article 78 for not complying with state law. The board is preparing to do that, but legal action takes time.

This is an outrageous situation. Please monitor the topics and attend the Wednesday, January 16 town board meeting which begins at 6:30 p.m.

Tell your neighbors and friends.

Thank you for your support.
