Unique athlete to bring anti-bullying program to Webb’s school students

Bob Holmes, who has gained national notoriety as a one-man volleyball team, will take on Town of Webb School students and faculty at an all-school assembly on Friday, December 21.

Following the three-game demonstration of his incredible volleyball skills, Holmes will present an anti-bullying program to the audience.

Holmes, who formerly worked in the field of public speaking, said he began playing volleyball for therapeutic purposes years ago when he started to experience back problems due to a vast amount of traveling.

He eventually became quite adept at the sport, which ultimately led him to his transformation as “The One Man Volleyball Team.”

He has been featured on CNN, the CBS Morning Show, and in USA Today.

Having played 17,000-plus games—and winning 97% of the time—he has been listed in Ripley’s Believe It or Not for having played more games than any athlete in the history of the world, in any sport.

Today, Holmes works in association with the national organization, Citizens Against Teen Suicide and Bully Abuse (C.A.T.S.), and utilizes his one-man volleyball team demonstrations as a “word picture for standing alone when necessary and not succumbing to peer pressure.”

To date he has conducted more than 5,000 motivational assemblies.

Holmes was invited to bring his positive message to Town of Webb School students by Principal John Swick as a reinforcement of New York State’s Dignity for All Students Act.

The act “seeks to provide the State’s public elementary and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function.”

The anti-bullying legislation was signed into law on September 13, 2010 and took effect on July 1, 2012.

The program will begin at 1 p.m. in the school gym. More information about Bob Holmes can be found at www.beatbob.com.
