Election Day 2012: Webb’s unofficial polling results announced

The Herkimer County Board of Elections has posted the unofficial results of the Tuesday, November 6 general election. Though the official results will not be available until all absentee ballots are received and counted, none of the races were so close that the outcome will change.

In the presidential race, Mitt Romney took 462 votes in Webb District 1 and 101 votes in District 2. President Obama received 427 votes in Webb 1 and seven in Webb 2.

Incumbent Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was re-elected to her position after defeating Republican challenger Wendy Long.In Webb District 1, Gillibrand had 531 votes and 301 votes went to Long. In Webb 2, the race was closer with Long receiving 77 votes to Gillibrand’s 72.

In the race for the new 21st Congressional District between Matt Doheny and incumbent Bill Owens, Owens was the overall victor, defeating Doheny by 5,446 votes.

However, Doheny took Webb 1 with 446 votes to Owens’ 377, and Webb 2 with 100 votes to Owens’ 44.

Republican Senator Hugh Farley was officially made the most senior legislator in the State Senate on Tuesday night after defeating political newcomer Madelyn Thorne for a seat in the new 49th Senate District—the second largest senate district in the state.

Farley received 454 votes in Webb 1 to Thorne’s 331, and in Webb 2 he received 103 votes to Thorne’s 40.

In the race for the 118th Assembly District, incumbent Republican Marc Butler was the clear winner district-wide after defeating Joseph Chilelli. Butler received 577 votes in Webb 1 to Chilelli’s 252, and 114 in Webb 2 to Chilelli’s 32.

Acting District Attorney Jeffrey Carpenter was elected to the position of Herkimer County District Attorney, defeating former Assistant County Attorney Mary Iocovozzi. County-wide, Carpenter received 12,471 votes to Iocovozzi’s 9,218.

Locally, Carpenter received 420 votes in Webb 1 and Iocovozzi received 417. In Webb 2, Carpenter received 86 votes to his challenger’s 59.

Running unopposed were Herkimer County Clerk Sylvia Rowan, Herkimer County Treasurer Dan Enea and Herkimer County’s District 1 Coroner, Danforth Rivet.

The unofficial county totals had Rowan receiving 16,784 votes total and 753 votes from both Webb Districts. Enea received 746 votes from within Webb bringing his vote total to 17,251 for the Treasury seat.

Coroner Danforth Rivet was the most voted for person from the Town of Webb in the general election. He received a total of 859 votes throughout Coroner District 1—733 from Webb District 1, and 126 from Webb 2.

Because absentee ballots did not have to be postmarked until Monday, November 5 and do not have to arrive at the Herkimer County Board of Elections until Friday, November 16, these results are unofficial. Official results will be announced once all votes are tallied.

According to the Herkimer County Board of Elections, there are currently 1,496 registered voters in Webb District 1 and 298 in Webb District 2.
