26th Annual Quilt Exhibition opens at View, Oct. 13th

The 26th Annual Quilts Unlimited Exhibition, a competitive exhibit that features traditional and eclectic quilts and wall hangings created by quilters from across the country, will officially open at View in Old Forge on Saturday, October 13.

A preview reception will be held on Friday, October 12, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Attendees will enjoy music, light refreshments, and a variety of quilt-related raffles.

And on Saturday and Sunday, there will be a variety of workshops, demonstrations and vendor displays.

Award-winning quilter Mary Knapp will present an interactive lecture, “Uniquely You,” at 10 a.m. that will provide insight into quilt design and technique.

A luncheon will follow.Pre-registration for the lecture and luncheon is required by calling (315) 369-6411.

The cost is $20 for non-members and $15 for members of View, and includes admission to the exhibition.

The awards ceremony will take place at 2 p.m., and following the distribution of awards there will be a Fat Quarter Drawing.

Bring along an 18” x 22” piece of fabric (a fat quarter) to be eligible to win the drawing for an entire pool of fat quarters.

Among the instructional opportunities will be:

Modern Day Reverse Appliqué with Carol Sloan on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m.; Stampmaking for Quilters with Jane Dávila on Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon; and Fabric Collage Stories OR Embellish your Story with Liz Kettle on Sunday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Local demonstrators include Annette Eyre who will feature the art of appliqué; Donnie Brownsey – Quilt as you Go; and Sandra White will demonstrate binding.

On Sunday, Margaret Sykes will offer a beginner’s quilting class, How to Make a Tree Farm Throw, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Several exhibitions will be running concurrently with Quilts Unlimited including Quilts by Mary Knapp, “Off the Hanger” Mixed Media Fiber Art by 8 That Create, Mosaic Tile Sculpture by Shelly Hamill, and Flameworked Glass Sculpture by Tina Betz.

Admission to the exhibition is $8 for non-members and $4 for members and groups of six or more. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free.

Hours are 10 a.m. to  5 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
