Moose encounter mesmerizes

Kathy Dylis of Whitesboro and her friend Dorothy Taman of Otter Lake were traveling down the Hawkinsville Road on Wednesday evening September 19, headed for dinner at Garramone’s in Forestport following a shopping trip to Boonville.

They were about a couple miles past the Edmunds Road when Dylis, the driver, saw a red fox on the left side of the road. Wanting to get a closer look at the animal, she pulled the car over.

When she got out of the vehicle she was distracted by some ripples in a stream on the other side of the road, and saw the head of a huge bull moose emerge from the water.

Dylis said she knew from watching nature shows that a disturbed moose was generally an unfriendly moose, and quickly got back into the car to proceed down the road. She said the animal got out of the water and galloped through the woods in the same direction they were traveling.

“It was the most wonderful thing I have ever seen, and I feel so blessed to have seen it,” Dylis said.
