Town of Webb’s Police Department reports recent enforcement activity

Town of Webb Police Department reported the following law enforcement activity, which occurred locally in recent weeks:

• A vehicle and traffic stop for speeding on June 27 resulted in the arrest of a 45 year old Mahopac man. The man was arrested by Officer A. J. Silverman for Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While License Revoked and driving with a blood alcohol over .08.

He was released to appear before Judge Miller on July 2.

• Property Damage to a Motor Vehicle on June 28 resulted in the DWI arrest of a 20 year old Utica man by Officer Kate Dillon following a property damage accident. The man was seen walking away from the vehicle and was questioned regarding the accident.

He was then arrested and ticketed for leaving the scene of a property damage accident and consuming an alcoholic beverage while under age 21, along with driving while intoxicated. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Webb Court at a later date.

• A June 29 traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a 34 year old Old Forge man. The man was arrested by Officer Kate Dillon after he failed to signal.

The stop revealed to Officer Dillon that he was under the influence and was subsequently arrested. He is being charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Failure to Signal, and driving as an Unlicensed Driver. He will appear in the Town of Webb Court at a later date.

• Domestic and Criminal Mischief resulted in a Rome man’s arrest on July 6. The man was arrested by Officer Trevor Tormey for Criminal Mischief after damaging property at the Old Forge Camping Resort, which occurred as police were called to his location following a domestic between his family and friends.

He will appear before Hon. John W. Graham at a later date.

• On July 8, a traffic stop resulted in a Driving While Intoxicated arrest of an Ilion woman.

The woman was arrested by Officer Kate Dillon after she failed to keep right.

She was taken to the Town of Webb Police Station where she was ticketed for Failure to Keep Right, Driving While Intoxicated, as well as other equipment violations.

She will return to the Town of Webb Court at a later date.

• A Personal Injury Accident on July 15 resulted in the arrest of a 22 year old Old Forge man for Driving While Intoxicated.

The man was arrested by Officer. A. J. Silverman after losing control of his vehicle on the South Shore Road.

He was driving northbound on the South Shore Road when his vehicle left the roadway, struck an earth embankment and continued airborne into the support wires of a power pole.

He was later transported by Old Forge Ambulance to a Utica Hospital. He will appear in the Town of Webb Court at a later date.

• A 35-year-old Auburn man was arrested on July 18 following a hit on Town of Webb Police car license plate reader.

The man was stopped and arrested when the license plate reader alarmed Officer Trevor Tormey that the vehicle he was driving had a suspended registration.

The man was taken to the Town of Webb Police Station and processed for Driving While Intoxicated, and Driving While Suspended. He was released to appear before the Hon. John Graham at a later date.

• On July 20, Officer Anthony Sege, and Officer Kevin Birtle arrested a 34 year old Old Forge man for Criminal Contempt following a complaint filed earlier in the Town of Webb Court.

He was processed and arraigned before the Hon. John W. Graham and was ordered to post bail.

He will again appear before the Town of Webb Court at a later date.

• Officer Kevin Birtle and Officer Anthony Sege responded to a possible shooting at Clark’s Beach Motel on July 21. Upon arrival Officers Sege and Birtle took Michael Leach of Rochester into custody.

The victim, Mr. Leach’s son, Matthew Leach, age 37, was taken from the motel room to a Utica Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The case was turned over to the New York State Police and the Herkimer County District Attorney Office for further investigation.

• A traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a 21 year old Brooklyn man on July 24. The man was stopped for speeding when Officer Silverman noticed that he also appeared intoxicated.

He was taken into custody and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Speed in a Zone, Consuming Alcoholic Beverages in a Motor Vehicle and Driving with a blood alcohol in excess of 0.08. He will appear in Town of Webb Court at a later date.

• On July 25th, a male was ticketed for Underage Drinking following a complaint. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Webb Court at a later date.

• Officer Anthony Sege was called to investigate a stolen boat trailer on July 27. The trailer reported stolen was a 1986 Load Rite boat trailer, color white.

The trailer was taken from the site known as the Old Highway Department on July 27. Anyone with information regarding this theft is asked to please call the Town of Webb Police at (315)369-6515.

• A man was issued a criminal summons by Officer Kate Dillon on July 28 following an altercation at a local establishment. He was charged with harassment and will appear in the Town of Webb Court at a later date.

• On July 28, Officer Trevor Tormey arrested a 24 year old Vero Beach, FL man following a traffic stop. The man was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated after he was pulled over for speeding in a zone.

He was later charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Speeding in a Zone, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of the First Degree. He will appear before the Hon. John Graham at a later date.

• On July 29, Officer Trevor Tormey was returning a cell phone to the owner who reported it lost when upon arrival at the residence he smelled a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the residence.

His inquiry lead to the arrest of a Port Leyden man for  Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The man will reappear before the Hon. James Miller at a later date.

• From June 27th to July 31, 2012, the Town of Webb Police also handled the following calls:

Motor Vehicle Accident, 20; Calls in Reference to Bears, 42; Domestic Issues, 9; Harassment calls, 4; Welfare Checks, 2; Civil Issues, 9; Disorderly Persons, 8; Disabled Vehicles, 5; Reports of Larceny, 14; Assists to other agencies, 15; Missing Persons, 1; Criminal Mischief, 2; Suspicious Persons, 4; Calls in reference to Dogs, 13; Deer feeding complaints, 4; Burglary Alarms, 4; Investigation into illegal conduct, 22; Fireworks, 9; Altercations, 7.

The 911 center handled 522 calls from the Town of Webb. These calls included over radio transmissions or phone calls to or for the Town of Webb Police Department.
