Puzzles Available: One Square Mile of Hope still alive & kicking!

by Margie O’Hara

No one is more surprised than the One Square Mile Committee that last September’s event is still in the news. Most recently, an article appeared in a northern Michigan publication and on-line at MyNorth.com that was entitled Northern Michigan: Suttons Bay Floatilla Hopes to Break World Record.

The essence of the article was that Suttons Bay plans to gather on Saturday, September 1 to create a floating raft of over 2,000 boats in an attempt to break the world record, which is currently held by “a small town in upstate New York.” That would, of course, be Inlet.

Not that the OSM Committee wishes any competitor ill, but it would certainly be nice if the Inlet record stood for a couple of years before the group has to recapture it.Another recent development in the OSM saga: the publishers of the 2013 Adirondack Life Calendar chose one of Nancie Battaglia’s photos of the OSM floating raft from Saturday, September 24, 2011 as the September illustration. So hurry out and purchase one of these beautiful calendars.

Speaking of purchases, the long-awaited jigsaw puzzles made out of the photo that is on the One Square Mile of Hope poster are now available. Count me in! What a novel idea, but a great puzzle.

For a mere $20, you can rebuild the floatilla of boats over and over again, and invite others to join you! The puzzles can be acquired at the Inlet Information Office. They are also available on-line through the OneSquareMileofHope.org website.

If you need to have them mailed, postage may cost an extra $5. They make a great present for anyone who participated in the event, or just those who wish they had been there.

A limited number of puzzles is available, so get yours before they’re gone.
