Thendara club to host 3rd Annual Kinderwood Golf Classic, Aug.6th

The 3rd Annual Kinderwood Golf Classic at Thendara Golf Club is scheduled to take place on Monday, August 6 at 1 p.m. with a dinner beginning at 5 p.m.

As the largest fundraiser for the Kinderwood Preschool Program, this shotgun start golf tournament, dinner, and auction is open to the public and guests may choose to participate in all of the activities, or just come for the dinner and auction if they can’t make the golf outing.

The Kinderwood Program is located at View, the arts center in Old Forge, and is now entering its 43rd year of providing a quality education program to pre-school aged children in the community.Kinderwood also offers scholarship opportunities for those who qualify and, according to Diane Heroux, Kinderwood’s Head Teacher, thanks to fundraising events like the Kinderwood Golf Classic; they have never had to turn a child away.

“We have been so fortunate, the community has been so generous. We have never had to turn anybody away for financial reasons, or for any reason, period,” Heroux said.

However, she said, due to the state economy, the need for scholarship money is greater than it has ever been, as are the financial needs of the Program.

In the two years that Kinderwood has been located at View, they have expanded their programs and wish to continue that expansion.

Currently, the program for three-year-olds runs two days a week for two and a half hours per session, while the four-year olds have two three-hour sessions a week as well as a community outreach program on Wednesday afternoons.

This year, according to Heroux, the four-year-old program will be expanded to include a Monday afternoon session.

Proceeds from the tournament, Kinderwood’s biggest annual fundraising effort, will help support the growth of the preschool program.

The deadline to signup for the tournament is Friday, August 3, and the deadline to RSVP for dinner and the live and silent auctions will be Saturday, August 4.

Tickets to the Kinderwood Golf Classic are $85 per person and include golf, a golf cart, refreshments on the course, as well as dinner and the auction.

Tickets to attend just the dinner and auction are $35 per person.

Returning to this year’s event will be local auctioneer Tim Foley and music will be provided by Al Nathan.
