Fourth Lake Competition: Sailors hold Annual George Blakeman Regatta

On July 14th, the Central Adirondack Sailing Association held the annual George Blakeman Regatta, named in honor of one of the founding members of the organization.

The regatta included 3 races in extremely hot conditions relative to typical Fourth Lake sailing.

Many of the sailors commented that it was the warmest races they had sailed in over the past 20 years.

Competing with the many party barges and jet-skiers for space on the lake, 12 Flying Scots raced in at least one of the races with 9 boats completing all three over a period of about 4 hours. The results for the regatta were:

1st Place – Paul Willsey with crew Butch Hartsig 2nd Place – Doug Smith with crew Rich Rettig 3rd Place – Duffy Zornow with son Patrick Zornow 4th Place – Tom B. McCabe with daughter Carey Lorraine 5th Place – Liz Cowles with brother Tom P. McCabe 6th Place – Wayne Menz with nephew David Menz 7th Place – Frank Belknap with crew Dale Stanton 8th Place – Nate Wilsey with crew Amy Steigerwald 9th Place – John Jeffrey with crew Mark Steigerwald

The Mandia and O’Donnel boats also completed a subset of the races. Sailboat races will be held every Saturday at 3:00 on 4th lake until Aug. 18th.

All sailboats are welcome, especially Sunfish. Please call Commodore Paul Willsey (315- 357-6060) with any questions.
