Menges and Hannah recipients of Robert Hazard artist scholarships

The Town of Webb School Robert Hazard Young Artists Scholarship for 2012 has been awarded to Jessica Menges and Jessica Hannah, both of Old Forge.

Susan Rimato and her sons, Rex and Remington, created the scholarship to support young artists in the Adirondacks, and to celebrate the creative life of their late husband and father Robert Hazard.

The fund supports young artists who demonstrate artistic merit and dedication, and programs and projects which further the development of the arts for children and young adults.

Hannah will attend Hartwick in the fall, pursuing an art degree. Menges is off to Maine Maritime Academy where she will study marine biology, though art is still an important part of her life.

“The Robert Hazard Scholarship especially supports young artists and musicians who actively display and perform their art, and both Menges and Hannah have been particularly active, producing wonderful art for shows in school and local galleries,” said Michael Cunningham of the Town of Webb Scholarship Fund Committee.

Robert Hazard was a popular and influential singer, songwriter and bandleader, and his early development included a deep conviction to become an artist.

His love of the Adirondacks brought his family to Old Forge and was evident creatively in his later music and songwriting.
