Enchanted Forest/Water Safari opens ’12 season with big splash

Hundreds of fans of the Enchanted Forest/Water Safari, lined up at its gates on Wednesday, June 13 to enjoy opening day at New York’s largest water theme park.

Katie Noonan, vice-president and director of marketing, said among the crowds who came to be the first to test out the waterslides, rides and other attractions were a number of school groups.

Behind the scenes, Noonan said Park managers were busy wrapping up training sessions with staff, making sure they were familiar with the areas in which they would be working this summer.

“Yes, we’re ready. It’s full steam ahead!” Noonan said.

This year celebrates the 57th anniversary of the park, which offers more than 50 rides and attractions, including 32 water rides.New this year, according to Noonan, is the 2012 family circus show featuring the Flying Pages Trapeze, Aerial Cradle, and Bareback Horse Acts.

Also, the Park’s new moose mascot, Safari Sam, will be making his big debut later in the month.

“Locals Day,” the Park’s annual Town Appreciation Day, will be held on Sunday, June 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Admission is $7 for residents of Old Forge, Thendara, Eagle Bay, Inlet, Big Moose, Stillwater, Raquette Lake, Blue Mountain Lake, Indian Lake, Otter Lake, Woodgate, Alder Creek, Forest-port, Hawkinsville, Boonville, Port Leyden, Lyons Falls, Turin, Constableville, Glenfield and Brantingham Lake.

Residents must show a driver’s license or utility bill as proof of residency at the time of entrance.

The fee for admission and an all-you-can-eat buffet is $14 per person.

Admission to the Park includes unlimited access to all rides, shows and attractions.

All proceeds from Locals Day will benefit the J. Richard and Ruth E. Noonan Memorial Scholarship Fund which provides scholarships for graduating seniors of the Town of Webb School.

Included in the Locals Day admission will be an opportunity for a complimentary ride on the Old Forge Lake Cruises, which can be used that same day.

The boat departs at 6 p.m. for the first 100 guests to show an Enchanted Forest Water Safari wristband or receipt.
