Central Adirondack Assn. to honor five at Tuesday’s spring gathering

Organization awards going to Gates, Foley, Noonan, and The Burnaps

The Central Adirondack Association (CAA) has a number of events planned for June, with the big kick-off on June 1 and 2 with the annual Thunder in Old Forge motorcycle event.

Following closely on Tuesday, June 5 will be the organization’s Spring Fling social gathering and annual awards presentation at Thendara Golf Club.

During the Spring Fling, the CAA will be honoring four individuals with honorary memberships, volunteer of the year, and a lifetime achievement award. This year’s recipients of the lifetime achievement award are the late Frank Burnap and his wife, Beverly, former owners of the Farm Restaurant.

“Frank was one of the mainstays of the CAA,” said Town of Webb Publicity Director Mike Farmer.

CAA’s volunteer of the year is Bob Gates who will be honored for his countless volunteer hours to the organization.

“For years, Bob has gone above and beyond what has been asked of him at events such as the Classic Car Show and the Pink Ribbon Riders, and he has been a regular fixture at Snodeo,” said CAA President Nick Bankert.

Gates, who is also heavily involved with the Inlet Barnstormers Snowmobile Club, also takes on the responsibility of volunteer trail groomer.

“If he can be at one of our events, he will be involved. He’s always just helping do whatever needs to be done, and he’s been doing it for years,” said CAA Events Coordinator Laurie Barkauskas.

Tim Foley and Tim Noonan will be recognized as Honorary Members at the event, and prior to receiving the designation will be subjected to a “roast” by Doc Foley and George Hiltebrant.

The CAA Spring Fling is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with a cash bar, which will be followed by a $15 per person Chicken BBQ dinner at 7 p.m. The awards ceremony will begin at 8 p.m.

Other upcoming CAA events include a partnership with Brooker’s True Value Hardware Adirondack Camp and Home Show on June 8, 9, and 10 at the GTH Recreation Center.

Also, the Father’s Day Weekend Car Show on Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16, and the Frog Jumping Contest on Sunday, June 17th.
