Gail Murray, director of the Town of Webb Historical Association, has welcomed Claire Hayes as a parttime staff member at the Goodsell Museum.

Hayes, who started as a volunteer last fall, was hired in February. According to Murray, her appointment was made possible through a New York State Access-VR grant.

Hayes attended Cazenovia College and MVCC, majoring in Graphic Design and Graphic Arts Technology.

She has experience in working with historical collections, and worked at Colgate University one summer digitizing old newspaper cartoons by Thomas Nash and entering them into the college’s accessions database. At the Goodsell Museum, Murray said, Hayes has assisted with data entry of town photos into their accessions database, and offers a helping hand to Administrative Assistant Kate Lewis.

She has also applied her graphic design skills to help make programs for current exhibits and is currently helping to create a new brochure for the Goodsell Room.

“Claire’s efforts have made it possible for us to use our technology more effectively. Her experience with computers allowed her to start right in with the data entry of recent photos of Thendara and Old Forge buildings, Camp Gorham, Moss Lake Camp, and Camp Cascade—recording over 500 photos,” Murray said.

Hayes moved to Old Forge last May with her mother, Jennifer Potter Hayes, executive director of View.

She said she loves being in the Adirondacks and enjoys outdoor activities and making friends here.
