Town of Webb Board of Education meets

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, February 7, where it took the following action:

• Approved the Minutes of January 31st meeting

• Approved the Warrants and Claims

• Accepted the intent to retire of Ronald Smith, 7-12 Science teacher, with regret and appreciation for his years of service, effective June 30, 2012.

• Approved the Committee on Special Education Recommendations.

• Approved the Appointment of Substitutes: Nurse – Danielle Beckingham; Teacher – Kelly Pratt; Teacher Aide – Kelly Pratt; Teacher – Matthew Brazell; Teacher Aide – Matthew Brazell; Teacher – Laura Eriksson; Teacher Aide – Laura Eriksson; Teacher – Melissa Peach; Teacher Aide – Melissa Peach.Special Topics:

• Board Review of Draft #2 of 2012-2013 Budget under Development.

• Attendance Policy vs. adjusting attendance data when a student makes up time/work.

• To date we have received 58 applications for the Principal’s position. Mr. Germer reviewed his proposed timeline from application deadline to appointment of a new Principal.

• Outside bus use. The current policy has been to allow “Not for Profit” status organizations  to use school buses with the organization assuming the cost.

• Currently we have three unused snow days and reviewed the calendar for use of the unused snow days.

• 2012-2013 testing calendar was reviewed and its impact on the calendar for next year looks like this year’s calendar.

• Mr. Germer suggested the 13th holiday for non-instructional employees be discussed for May 25.

• Mr. Germer suggested that Jenn Dunn and Diane Kull be approved to take the course and exam for Notary.

• Senior student changing residency and the impact on finishing the year at Town of Webb UFSD.

• Received a request to use our building and computers for a basic computer skills course funded by a grant through HCCC. This would be another community outreach program in addition to our fitness program.

• Reviewed next year’s 7th grade schedule. There will be 24 students in 7th grade in 2012-2013.

• Reviewed 2011-2012 budget brochure and by consensus the board was in agreement that it needed to be given a face-lift.

• Reviewed the student elective survey for 2012-2013 school year. The results were that the proposed schedule will attempt to offer college credit for two currently scheduled classes and potentially add three electives in the 2012-13 schedule.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21 at 6:30 p.m. with the continuation of the 2012-2013 proposed budget discussion.
